Langs Beach House

Location: Langs Beach, Northland
Completion: 2002

The idea was to peel the aesthetic back to the basics reducing fuss and allowing the place to be used like the traditional kiwi bach. The bach needed to be low maintenance both internally and externally.

The intention was to maximise on the view. Therefore, the building needed to be two storied.

The design needed to allow for the issue of the heat in the summer and the cold in winter.

Access to the rear of the building was required to an outdoor shower, avoiding people going through the living spaces after coming up from the beach.

There was also the requirement for a covered sheltered area as a protection from the weather (rain or shine).

The main issue was for the bach to be an enjoyable place to retreat to, away from the city allowing the family to enjoy the sound, smell, use and proximity of it's position to the sea with family and friends.
