Remuera House

Client: Clarke Shepherd Family
Location: Remuera, Auckland
Completion: 2002
Awards: NZIA Resene New Zealand Award for Architecture 2004;
NZIA Resene Auckland Local Award for Architecture 2003

For this addition to a 1970's town house the new 'box' (incorporating a bedroom and studio space) was disconnected with the old by a glass link - a bridge and stairwell set in a fully glazed enclosure.

The addition both extends the 1970's contemporary aesthetic while also exploring new architectural forms on a restricted site.

The metal cladding, naturally finished joinery and polished concrete contrast in an interesting but not contradictory fashion to the original design.
