Titirangi Red House
project info
| A compact and efficient plan has been designed to provide dramatic contrasts in spaces and experiences, as the occupant ascends through the treescape. Variations in texture and materiality relate to the activities and patterns of movement within. On arrival the journey is to first descend from the road to a pedestrian lookout, adjacent to the 2.5 story house proper. A concealed main entry is located beside the studio space with its sliding translucent wall. The space can be used as alternative access for public studio events. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are connected immediately to the trees. Access to the glazed circulation element is via a return through the entry space, and the journey through the treescape begins. An open plan living zone is partially glazed on three sides with top hung windows on pneumatic lifts. The occupant is at once connected to and protected from the elements. A fireplace and joinery element is balanced against the kitchen joinery opposite. A glazed roof visually connects to the roof deck above. Returning to the stair, the occupant ascends to the roof deck - a dramatic spatial shift. Sitting above the tree canopy, the roof space provides flexible and unique outdoor living. |
